TECH INTEGRATED LESSON PLAN
Original Lesson Plan:
https://media.doterra.com/us/en/flyers/science-for-kids-stem-exchange-4-grade.pdf
I. RATIONALE:
This lesson aligns with the Arizona state standards.
II. OVERVIEW
Grade Level: 4th
Subject(s): Science
Topic of Study: Water Cycle
Time Allotment: 1 hour
Standards:
4.E1U3.9 Construct and support an evidence-based argument about the availability of water and its impact on life.
Objectives:
I can describe the water cycle and the key parts of the water cycle.
Teach students about the different parts of the water cycle (precipitation, condensation, and evaporation) and how the process is fueled by the energy of the sun using technology.
III. IMPLEMENTATION
Procedure:
1. Start with a basic class discussion about the water cycle. Ask students an opening question, such as: Where does rain come from? Where can water be found on the Earth? Why is water important?(verbal KWL) You will want to write/draw each step on the board in a cycle pattern to give the students a visual.
a. Play video
Water Cycle | Songs For Kids | Sing Along | GoNoodle - YouTube
b. Ask students if they know what the three steps of the water cycle are: evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. (Vocab cards/pictures)
c. Evaporation occurs when water that is already on the earth is heated by the sun, changing it from a liquid to a gas known as water vapor.
d. After water evaporates, it rises into the air where it cools and gathers into clouds. This step is called condensation. Condensation occurs when water changes from a gas back into a liquid.
e. After water condenses, the next step of the water cycle is precipitation. This happens when water falls back to the earth. i. Ask students for examples of different types of precipitation: rain, snow, sleet, and hail.
f. Once the water has fallen back to the ground, it’s heated again by the sun and the cycle continues.
i. Ask students how they use water. Answers include: drinking, helps plants grow, showering, cooking things in it, etc.
ii. Ask students why the water cycle is important. We all need and use water. 2. Have students create a model of the water cycle in a bag. Follow the steps outlined on the dÅTERRA® Science for Kids water cycle experiment page.
Technology Integration: (Describe how students and the teacher will use technology throughout the lesson)
Water Cycle video
Flocabulary vocab cards
Quiz (Flocabulary)
Differentiated Instruction:
Cognitive delay: Students can write or verbally share the learned part of the KWL chart.
Gifted: Students can participate in the vocab game and Lyric Lab on their flocabulary accounts.
ELL: Vocab cards consisting of their drawings, a definition, an image, and how they would use it in a sentence.
IV. ASSESSMENT
· Procedure:
Flocabulary Quiz: Students will complete the 10 question quiz and the whole class would go over each question as a class.

Hi Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteWow! This looks nothing like the science that I grew up with and that's a good thing! It looks fun and engaging and that makes me happy! I do have some questions regarding when you would use your resources as maybe I'm just not seeing it in the written lesson plan.
The Flocabulary Quiz is your assessment, which I love because I think it could be fun and discourage any testing anxiety!
Are you going over the vocab cards with your class after you show them the Water Cycle video? Or do your kids practice the vocab cards for a certain amount of time prior to actually taking the quiz? Or both?
Thanks so much in advance! You guys did wonderful and this looks like such a fun way to teach the water cycle! I especially want to try the "Water Cycle in a bag" experiment for myself, just because it sounds interesting and I want to see if I can actually do it right! Lol! Nice work, y'all!
Hi Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteYou guys did a great job incorporating technology to this lesson. I think that showing the students a video is a great anticipatory set and a good way to continue the discussion you plan on beginning the lesson with. I also like the idea of a Flocabulary quiz as an assessment, because I think it's a good way to have students practice the vocabulary.
Thanks for sharing!
Jasmine,
ReplyDeleteI love the inclusion of ELL and how they will be provided flashcards to better their understanding of the lesson! I also like the intentional use of technology and how it will be utilized throughout the lesson. This gives students a wonderful opportunity to practice their technology skills within a lesson of academic content.
Hello Miss Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteI loved the use of the flocabulary in your lesson plan. I have never used it before so I am happy to see it in your lesson and how it flowed so nicely with it. Your lesson plan was so easy to follow and I think your group did an amazing job!
